This little nook between our bedroom and linen closet clearly needed an upgrade! I have to walk past it multiple times each day and it’s visible from our main living area. It really had the potential of being a fun feature wall. Plus the doors weren’t painted yet and that was really bumming me out. So, a weekend project was a necessity…both for the house and my mental health! 😉

Here is the boring before…

I wanted to start with painting the doors a color other than white. I didn’t think this was a super bold decision…but I received lots of feedback on this! I knew I wanted grey but wasn’t sure of the shade so I sampled both Behr’s Elemental (lighter) or Legendary (darker). I really like Behr’s paint because it has the primer in it and doesn’t require a lot of coats.

The darker gray was really giving me the rich pop I wanted. So I cleaned up the doors and went to town! After I finished the first coat, I knew I was going to really love this color for ALL my interior doors…eventually! 😉

Next up was the wallpaper! Now, I hate installing wallpaper even the temporary, adhesive wallpaper. But, after a couple hours, it was all up. I only quit twice! 😉 I also switched out the outlet plate for black. The center portion switch is forthcoming but hasn’t arrived yet.

If you are new here, you might not know this about me. But…I’m obsessed with monarch butterflies. Something about 2020…but I love, love, love watching the caterpillars chomp on my milkweed plants and then build their chrysalis and then eventually emerge into gorgeous butterflies. It’s just the coolest backyard science project. So, this watercolor print just made too much sense for me!

This area also has zero light so I added a battery operated “magic” light for both a fun gallery look but also functionality. And BAM, done!

This project took me two half days. I painted the doors on day one and then placed the wallpaper, art, and light on day two. I did complete the project solo, though an extra pair of hands wouldn’t have been the worst. I still need to complete the outlet and touch up some of the white trim paint. But, if I had all my supplies on hand, I could still have likely completed this project over a weekend. Links & cost of all items are below! 🙂
