Though I do at least one load of laundry a day, it isn’t necessarily a chore I look forward to doing. I don’t wake up jazzed to wash another load of towels or my son’s stinky socks. The fact that my laundry room was also drab and boring only compounded the fact that I dreaded the task. But alas, it comes with the parenting gig so I needed to find a way to make powering through a little more enjoyable.

The Before…

The color blue really sparks cozy feelings for us so I knew that was where I was starting. Plus, this room sits right off a previous upgrade with a color scheme that makes me happy so the direction was set. Then I saw the perfect wall paper that hit all the marks for me…and I was off!

I started by painting the cabinets a deep, navy blue color. I was worried this color would make the small room feel even more crowded, but I took the risk! I immediately remembered that I abhor painting cabinets but pushed through anyway! After 2-3 coats alternating between a standard paint brush and a paint roll, I moved on to the next step.

Things were going a little too well so I anticipated a hiccup…and wouldn’t you know it. The minute I was done painting the cabinets on one wall, I turned around to notice our washer was leaking! This paused the project as we (or more accurately Chris) watched YouTube videos, researched online, and poked around until we finally tossed in the towel and purchased a new set. Our old set was close to 12 years old, so this wasn’t a total shock…but still, never fun! It did get me a chance to paint the baseboards behind the machines, so silver lining, I guess!

Once we jumped that hurdle, I tackled the wall paper. This was my first time to chose a paper that required precise lining up of the design. And this proved to be challenging…not because the floral design was difficult lining up, it was just challenging ordering the right amount. Several Amazon orders later…and done!

My next big risk was painting the tile. I’ve been flirting with the idea of painting the tile floor in one of our bathrooms so this felt like the perfect chance to dip my toes in. I wanted something a little bolder, so I went with a matte black. This was terrifying. Especially since it looked WAY worse at first…but after a few coats (alternating between a standard paint brush and a paint roll), I was thrilled!

Once I fell in love with this new view, I decided there was no way I was going to cover it all up with decor! So we moved the family calendar and I added in a few pieces, like my Mackenzie-Childs dupe cake stand, a lamp, and a few plants!

The final step was to paint the remaining cabinets, gold buff the pole, and touch up the wall paint. I’m just loving this space and no longer feel the need to keep it tucked away by shutting the door. I still don’t love, love doing laundry…but I no longer hate the view!
