I am currently drowning in projects left undone but I finally have one that is completed and I can share! I’m ignoring the garage full of furniture collecting dust and the half done other projects staring me in the face…because I’m going to celebrate the wins! 😉

Many moons ago, I scored this solid sofa table off of Facebook Marketplace for $100. It had great bones, nice brass finishes, and cool textures on the face. Plus, I thought it might help us keep our puppy (and son!) from jumping off the back of the couch. *Spoiler Alert: it did not.*

Though I let the piece chill in it’s place for several months, just to clarify my vision for it, I knew from the start I wanted to paint it a darker color. I was thinking black but keeping the color of the rattan on the front and, of course, the brass. A weekend finally opened up and away I went!

I started by giving the piece a good cleaning and sanding. For the briefest of seconds, I thought I might want to go with a lighter gray…but after a test swatch on the front, nope, it needed to be darker!

After the first coat of paint, I noticed that this “black” had very prominent blue undertones…so prominent in fact, it’s basically navy. Even though it blended in quite well with our new coach covers, I still liked how it fit into the room. So I moved forward to a second coat.

To finish it off, I added a wax and scrubbed the brass finishings with Brasso.

Now, the fun part…decorating! With the glass top, we thought it would be fun to add special notes, pictures, or things we collect underneath it, so that will be fun to add to throughout the years. For the bottom, we already had the baskets for the dog toys and I thrifted the fun picnic basket to even it out. Across the top, I added some thrifted books, candle sticks, and brass pieces. But, it still didn’t feel done.

I knew what I had to do…

PLANTS! I found these planters at Wal-Mart and scored these awesome indoor plants during the Louisiana Nursery 40% off sale! As you can see, Minnie doesn’t care what the rules are…she does what she wants! 😉

Is the table perfect? Of course not! But it’s our style and we love it! Most of the items were thrifted, which just makes my heart soar! We have so many other fun thrifted pieces to add throughout our house! Stay tuned!
