I have always had a love/hate relationship with my hair. I have been known to be super unkind to it and then SHOCKED it wouldn’t grow into gorgeous locks. (insert eye roll) Past hairstyles have included pixie short to sassy bob to homeless child. It’s also been every single color under the sun. And, I washed it everyday and put ALL the heat on it without any protective products. Though I gave up dying my hair when I was pregnant with Lily, roughly 11 years ago… don’t let that fool you, I’ve still made rough choices when it came to hair maintenance.

SO, when 2020 hit and we were stuck at home, I thought this was the perfect time to start hair training. I started pushing my wash days a little further apart and using less heat. I started drinking a normal amount of water each day necessary for human life and started taking supplements like collagen and biotin. And wouldn’t ya know it…my hair started to grow!

April 2020 to August 2021

The second it started growing, I became obsessed with taking care of it…which led me to a DIY recipe to support healthy, growing hair. Now, to be clear, I never want to share or recommend something until I’ve been using it a while and can confirm it didn’t have any yucky side effects! I started using this spray earlier this summer and the results are in….I love it! I spray it all over my hair, focusing on my scalp, each evening and then brush it in and hit the sack! It was super easy to make, it smells delicious, and I love the extra shine and boost it’s given my hair. Below is the recipe and why I chose each of the oils included!

DIY Spray for Healthy, Growing Hair

  • An empty, clean, glass spray bottle
  • 10 drops of Rosemary Essential Oil
  • 10 drops of Lavender Essential Oil
  • 10 drops of Cedarwood Essential Oil
  • 10 drops of Tea Tree Essential Oil
  • Witch Hazel & Water

Fill your glass bottle roughly half way with the witch hazel and then add your essential oils. Top off with water and bam, you are done! I spray on my hair each evening and have done so on both dry and wet hair without issue!

Now, why did I chose the oils I did…

Rosemary oil is fairly colorless and has a strong, fresh scent. It helps promote hair growth by stimulating hair follicles, helps moisturize dry hair, helps unclog scalp pores, and reduces the appearance of a dry, flakey scalp.

Lavender oil is like the swiss army knife of essential oils but when it comes to hair care, it can help support growth while adding shine, helping condition, and reducing the effects of dandruff. Plus, it can help relax you into a sweet slumber!

Cedarwood oil smells uniquely yummy so I’ll start there, but it also supports hair strength by stimulating the hair follicles and improving circulation to the scalp. Plus, it’s also really great for sleep and anxiety support!

Tea Tree oil doesn’t smell amazing to me but I haven’t found it overpowering when combined with everything above. This oil helps promote hair growth & strength as well as improving scalp health by battling dandruff and preventing lice…ewww!

Again, I’ve been using this for a couple months and have run into zero issues! It doesn’t make my hair feel greasy or fall out or anything else weird. I’ve also gotten Lily using it now. She didn’t love the scent at first but she did say it grew on her! 🙂

Disclaimer…no, I don’t use a fancy essential oil brand and though I love you, I don’t intend to switch over to one.
